Mayumi was raised in a group home in Copperdale. While she was raised by her birth mother for only two years before being given up, she does not remember her mother or anything about the years before she moved into the group home. She met the Nez family as a child and became close to the triplets Lusi, Cosima, and Seven. Most of her time was spent with them or at their house. She had a crush on Seven though never pursued it due to her fear of abandonment. In high school, however, Seven asked her out. They dated for two years before she became pregnant with twins. She stayed in high school and graduated before enrolling in university and graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in psychology. Mayumi and Seven took a break in which they dated other people, but eventually got back together.

Seven is the youngest of triplets with his two older sisters Lusi and Cosima. He was raised in Copperdale by his parents in the same neighborhood as Mayumi's group home. His father is indigenous. Growing up, Mayumi was his best friend and they spent as much time together as they could all the way from elementary school to high school. He had been in love with her since they were children, but it took years for him to work up the courage to ask her out because he was afraid it was unrequited and didn't want to lose her as his best friend. He loves writing and the outdoors. He is currently a stay-at-home dad and writer.
